I have the same helmet and similar jacket, so it's good to know that it worked! lol
About 30 as best as I can remember the thing that really saved my *** though was the armor I put in the shoulder, elbow and forearm, I highly recommend putting all that in your jacket, there will be pockets already there if its the same jacket.

Really, glad you are ok. Your gear (helmet, jacket, gloves) looks invaluable.

I'd keep that saddlebag.
Haha good find! I preach ATGATT and it payed off for me. I love the bag more than ever now!

What is your riding experience, how may years been riding ?, ever been down before?
Smart of you to wear your gear, I hate wearing it in the heat but like you said it kept you from leaving a lot of skin at the scene.

That helmet scarring looks nasty, imagine if you hadn't had a helmet on?

Man to think how often I ride without it arrogantly thinking I don't need it is making me re-think that policy after yours and a few others posts lately.

Cant say you were lucky, you were smart and took safety precautions and it might have saved your life, it surely saved you from a lot more damage than you might have had.

So you said it happened in April, and you haven't been riding, you think your going to get back on two wheels now that you are healing? or are you gun shy after the spill?

They say there two kinds of riders, those who have been down and those who are going down, so look at it like, at least you got that out of the way and have a new found respect for gravel.

good post man, again sorry to hear what you went through but glad it could have been so much worse and you avoided that, I bet your wife was happy you wore your gear too.

Lump
I got my first dirt bike at 10 kept that till about 15, started again about 22 on sportbikes then bought the Harley last August after a year break... oh I'm 32 now. So I have a couple years under my belt

First hard accident, went down on my dirt bike, and others plenty.

Just ordered all the parts to get her back on the road, give me two weeks and I'm back to my 1200 mile months

How did this happen? Was there gravel in the apex of a turn? Ran off the shoulder of the road? Was it a gravel road? You couldnt see the gravel?

I guess I dont quite understand. Obviously you werent riding straight through the gravel? Please tell us what caused this gravel to take you down.
Crossed from the inside lane position to the outside setting up for a corner, really taking it easy leaned left and next thing I knew I was sliding on the tarmac. I ened up in the oncoming lane and the bike stayed in the correct lane, just the middle of it. Never saw the gravel, it was hidden in the middle of the lane and I was on the wrong side of dusk when it happened.

and on the full face vs anything else. The full face defiantly saved my chin, when I hit the ground my chin hit the front of the helmet (shitty modeler) and took a chunk out, have a thick scar now. If I were wearing a 3/4 I think I would have hit my chin on the pavement still and with a turtle shell I think there would have been no riding out on my own, and with no helmet... well look at the pics, I've thought a lot about this actually because I was looking at bell 3/4 now I have a Sheoi RF-1100

Been alternating between my 3/4 and 1/2 for the past few years. Was considering a new 1/2 but eith all the discussions on here recently about facial injuries to the rider (or in some cases passenger) in the event of a wreck has lead me to start checking out full faces. Thr RF1100 is one I was looking at. That along with the Bell RS 1.

Good luck with the full recovery and ride safe when you get back on.

Been there... Lots of titanium holding me together. I wasn't wearing a helmet and shattered my elbow protecting my noggin.

Live and learn... Ride hard & safe.

Congrats on wearing your helmet man just think of all the thousands of dollars you have already saved on plastic surgery!
I have to also commend you for fixing your bike and getting back on it to ride again. A true Biker.

Glad to know your ok, you can fix your Harley and replace your gear, so dont stress, theres a saying over this side pond, a crash = an oppertunity to upgrade or customise.

But on a seriouse note atleast you had the sense to wear a helmet.
