I bought a different seat for my 2003 883r. I got it on eBay, and while the passenger seat is way better then the stock 883r seat, the riders (MINE) seat area is no better. In fact it is worse. The stock seat curved up the tank, the seat I bought was flat and now I slide forward.
I am now looking at a sundowner seat. Does it go up onto the tank? ANd is the passenger part comfy?
I have one for my 48 and at least with the peanut tank it doesn't go all the way to the tank. As far as the passenger part goes I haven't heard any complaints and it seems to be a good amount of room for the passenger. I paid $280 at the stealership.
I have to second the above post. My wife loved it, it curves around my *** and does have some rise on the front for hard braking situations.
I will say this seat does put me a bit forward of the stock 48 seat.
Wife loved it compared to stock, very large pad for a sportster. Nose was narrower than stock seat so moved up maybe slightly but more flat footed due to narrower nose and with the bucket not sliding around or cramping wife under acceleration. Got mine in perfect condition on ebay for $150. I see them all the time here, xlforum, ebay, and craigslist for $125-180.PS GO BROWNS (even though they once again broke my heart on sunday, they made it a close game. D's looking good. Someday we'll get an offense)

I have about 17.600 miles on a Sundowner, it took about 200 miles before it agreed with my butt. Now I can cruise to western Pa., 370 miles with no complaints.
I just picked one up for my 48 because my girlfriend HATED the Phantom suction cup seat I had bought. Took her ride for the first time last night and she said it was way better. It's huge and pretty ugly but I'll only be using it when she wants to ride. Oh and I bought it used off Craigslist for $90 from someone who thought it was just a stock seat.
I had a Sundowner seat and also had an issue with sliding forward. Luckily I swapped it out with a Mustang seat even-up with someone in the dealer parking lot. Best trade I ever made.
