Default Sporster Recall - did you get one?
I just got in the mail today a recall - it says for 2008-2010 Softail and 2008-2011 XL & Dyna.

Problem is the gas tank - high temps and certain formulas of fuel alters the gas cap fitment and may prevent a proper seal between the gas tank and the fuel cap.

I don`t know about you, but I have a 2008 XL1200 Custom - it takes 4 years for MOCO to figure out they have a problem!!!!! - I`m a bit pissed - it`s no wonder Rice is gaining ground - add to that they tell me mid Sept. I could have had it repaired during my vacation but now I have to take a day off work and the weather is`nt reliable this time of year.

Am I over reacting or justified in being pissed - your comments are welcome.

i am confused... the sporty got a recall or just the dyna and softys ?
i have an '08 sporty and got no recall on it at all...

Why not order an aftermatket gas cap would that fix the problem or do they want to replace the tanks?

Just be glad w/the fact HD issued a recall. Problems don't just magically jump out & get discovered...these things take time and recalls are based on numerous facts. It's not something to get so upset about...simple fix.

my buddy just had his done, didnt take long at all..they did it while he waited, i checked my vin on the HD website and it didnt show any open recalls..

Something with the threads in the tank making it not seat with the cap properly. The letter says it is voluntary! I'm not going to waste my time at a dealer to get it "fixed".

Didn't need to make an appointment they just squeezed me in because its an easy fix

I have a 2012 so it will probably take a few more years before I get my recall notice. I'll just park my bike until then.
