Thanks for all the good advice. Been in the Navy now for 22 yrs and live in Monterey, CA south of SF. Looking at craigslist, ebay and the cycle trader the dealer's price seems about average. Of course not going to pay "sticker",but I do like the convenience of just going to a dealer and getting a bike rather than driving all over looking at individual craigslist adds. I can see there are deals to be had in doing so. I go the bug and some cash burning a hole in my pocket so easy to want to jump on it after ogling ads of HD's. Thanks about the consideration for foreign sales Zipper.
I agree with others the price seems a bit high for the mileage and year. They are trying to get you to pay more for the aftermarket parts on the bike that they paid the original owner less for. Try to get them down on the price.
I just called the sales guy back this afternoon and asked them if they had a military discount at all and how firm they are on that $7,900. Dude quoted me now $7,200. THink i will just walk in an offer the $6,500 and go from there. Thanks again y'all.
Check kbb.com it will give you an idea of what most banks or credit unions will loan on it,
and an idea of how much they gave on trade in for it.
Thanks for your service, good luck.
You dont seem to care at all about the money and you like the convenience and the supposed security of buying from a dealer, is it an HD authorized or ?????? In any case, you have heard us all say its not a very good deal, but at the end of the day its your money.
Hi all. I'm in the navy and Local HD dealer has a 2009 sportster 1200 custom for $7900, 10,000 miles, screaming eagle exhaust, sissy bar, upgraded shocks, upgraded seat. It's a gorgeous bike and the wife has given me the ok to pull the trigger for my first bike. Been looking a few months now at the forum and ready to buy after completing my safety course. I'm 6'2" 210 and the bike feels great. Any info would be appreciated
You can buy a Brand New Iron 883 for 7999 with 0 miles and a great warranty could ride it for a while then sell it in Japan with a much better re-sale value on a newer bike and then buy another New Harley lol.
Got mine earlier this year from Craigslist. 09 1200N with 5000 miles at time of purchase. Had stage 1 v&h already on and a couple other mods for $7000. Guy bought it brand new in 2009 and barely rode it, always garage kept. Now bike has over 13,000 miles and no problems and lots of new parts added and removed. Craigslist is the way to go!

SD1 thanks,
The dealer is the HD dealer in Salinas. AS for the money, i do like to save, but don't like driving all around. I have done some more research and it looks like i will have to spend anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000$ to get a bike registered in Japan after all the emission checks and such so this may have just put a huge damper on my plans. Thanks for the feedback. I am looking at craigslist right now.
