warm up time??

Default warm up time??

Just wondered if what your opinions are on letting the engine warm up before riding?
I know the carb bikes would benefit more on colder days but on a fuel injection bike is it really worth it?
My problem is im not too keen on leaving it running in the morning when going to work because of neighbours because of my pipes so i usually start it up, then put my helmet and gloves on and go but just keep the revs low for a while??

I wait till the rear cylinder is hot to the touch ...then I`m good to go .

It actually doesn't matter whether the bike is carbed or EFI. Your process of starting, putting gloves/helmet/etc on and taking off keeping the revs low for a while is the same as I do on my carbed sporty.

I warm up combustion engines for the sake of the components. Maybe I don't need to warm up the oil like I do, but I seem to have well running machines so I keep doing my whole routine.

As long as you are not starting up and hitting the throttle hard, your procedure is fine. That is my process exactly.

I fire mine up and proceed to put my gear on then I go. By then it's plenty warm.

If its below 70 outside I always wait at least 5 minutes. If above that temp then I start it get my gear on then go.

Cool Warm Enough

I read here that it takes a H-D about 20 miles to get everything to operating temp, wheel bearings, oils, gaskets and all. Of course the ambient temp comes into play. Works for me since I consider myself to be a sport recreational rider and time is not too much of a factor. I like the idea posted about the 1st gear cold clunk eliminated by starting it in 1st gear to begin with altho I don't like to start "Black Beauty" in gear and not tried it yet.
