will an 89 motor drop straight in to a 93 ?? my 5spd dropped a valve and i chewed a piston. i want to drop the 89 motor in just to get her back on the road so i can take my time re-building the 5spd.
Biggest thing to be concerned about is that I *think* the 89 had a different clutch actuation mechanism - (like the early Ironheads) - as well as a chain final drive.
You may need a different clutch cable to alleviate this issue.
The output shaft on the 89 isn't exactly the same as the 5-spd/belt drive (1991 +) XLs, and may require a belt pulley from the earlier conversion kits.

the 93 is chain drive, so if your giving me the good oil then worst im looking at is maybe change of clutch cable. sounds good to me.
