Need some help/advice
My 2005 Sporster now continues to try to run for a second or two after I shut it off. Not sure what I can do to stop it from doing this. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

does "try to run mean it pops, and pows??
if so it is trying to diesel on you.
means it is too hot to shut down cleanly.
two reasons for this
1. jetted way too lean on low end
2. didnt let idle for a second or two after high speed running.
and idle set too high

Dieseling or 'run-on' can also be caused by too much carbon building up on the cylinder head and piston crown. This can be cause by too rich a mixture. The carbon remains hot after running and causes ignition even when the electrics are turned off. Pull a plug and have a look inside the hole to see if the piston crown is coked up. If it is then you can get a cleaner which you pour into the cylinder and leave for a while to disolve the deposit. Just turn the engine over without the plugs in to blow out the gunk. More serious buildup requires the top end to be stripped for de-coking. Have fun.
