I Installed the Brake/Running Light/Turn Signal Module Today
Brian's HD was having a 15% off accessories sale and I decided to pick up the Brake/Running Light/Turn Signal Module today. It retails for $60 so I got $9 off. This is the HD branded one. I know there are aftermarket ones like the Illuminator, but, for once, the HD one is cheaper and just as effective.
I have the BAL1 (I sent it back to BAL for repair) and together with this module it really lights up the back end. The package comes with the module and two red lenses that replace the amber ones. The install is plug and play so it only takes minutes. Even though the instructions leave a lot to be desired.
If you're worried about cars not seeing you from behind, this is definitely worth having.
Those modules are the first mod I do to all my bikes, right after taking the reflectors off.
2005 with the ICM under the seat. The red box is the module. Green and yellow are the factory plugs:
Thanks. Hmmm ... I do not like it's running light function. I'd like the turn lights to be off when not braking or signaling.
I'm not sure if the illuminator is adjustable or not, but I believe it also uses the turn signals as both running and brake lights . I think the Kury Panacea is similar with plug in LED lights in place of the bulbs. The Kury needs a load equalizer to boot. For me, I enjoy having the added safety of the running lights.
Both the Illuminator and the Kury are much more expensive. $100+ and almost $150 (with equalizer) respectively.
That's the thing. I'm not sure rear running lights will add any safety. I'd like something that lights up when I'm on brakes. With this module I merely get lights that go brighter.

I understand what you're looking to get. Sort of like the 3rd rear center light in cars. It only illuminates when the brakes are applied. I don't think I've seen them as an aftermarket item. Do the dressers with the tour packs have them? If they do, then I would think there would be a way to apply it to a Sporty/Dyna/Softail.
That said, I do believe it adds safety. 3 lights are better than 1. I'm not saying it's the end-all-and-cure all, but it certainly adds visibility.
