Hi guys, another question thats proberly been done loads.
My fuel light comes on bang on between 60-70 miles whatever my riding style is, i then go to about 100 miles then fill up and there is still about 1.5 litres in the tank. I left it once to about 125 ish miles and was getting low fuel surges!
Its a 2012 iron 883 with khrome werks slip ons, k&n air filter and xieds fitted.
Does the fuel light at 60 ish miles seem right? or same as you guys?
Cheers
Glen, this is a popular topic across the entire range! Once upon a time we had gravity feed with a gas tap and reserve position, but with modern bikes we get a warning light. Same thing, just more visible and no fumbling around to move the tap. Learn how your bike works (seems you have already achieved that!) and ride on. You're both fine.
You can alter the point the light comes on by opening up the tank and bending the float wire, but that is a lot of effort, for little gain.
my low fuel light is on all the time. Had it in under warranty, they tried a new tank, new speedo, worked on it for hours they claimed, nothing fixed it.

This is happening on my 2012 sventy two w 8,500mi. First 5000mi light came on at 60-70mi. Now on all of the time as well. A mech at my dealer stated "it cannot be fixed.....easily. Then went on to say something about these tanks having no float. "The Fuel light is somehow calculated by computer etc....." Can anyone confirm what is actual going on with the mechanics of the fuel light? Cheers.
Not starting the bike on any kind of angle, kickstand, will help with that problem. I used to have the problem and now when i put gas in it i sit on it and hold it strait up and i start it in an upright position. Now the lite come on at ~90 miles consistently.
My light consistently comes on around 80-85miles no matter my riding style. I run it to about 100-110miles and then fill up. It usually takes about 2.5 gallons to fillup.
