This is why I asked. It might work, but on the other hand it could be really stupid. The reason Im considering this is im buying the biltwell moto bars and im trying to get them as low as I can while using those bars. Also I havent found any lower than stock, which is about 2 in to the center of the bar.

Being a machinist It would be easy for me to mill them off a bit. Thats whatfine i wouldhave do.
point was already made about to make sure you have enough threads that would be the main concern. Absolute Minimum thread depth would be bolt diameter but more is better.

I just looked at a set in my shop. They have a steel sleeve in them with a collar machined into the aluminum. If you cut that off then there is nothing holding in sleeve.
So I would not do it.

I don't know what year riser you're talking about, but if you have the older aluminum ones that drop a bolt through the bottom half of the riser and are secured with a nut under the top tree, then trimming them a little and using a shorter bolt will work fine. If the bolt threads upward into the bottom of the clamp and you're removing threads by trimming the risers, I wouldn't do it.

Just buy some old-style risers and cut them off. The top clamp will still fit fine. The bolt drops in from the top, so all you need are bolts that match the height of the risers after you cut them off.

This is the type I'm talking about:

I cut 3/4” off the risers on my ’09 Iron & 1/4 off the bolts. I bolted the risers up to a old set of bars, chucked up the bars in a vice, taped off what I was cutting off to use as a guide, used a hacksaw and went slow to make sure I was straight the whole time. You couldn’t tell anything had been done. When you pull the bars off and see where the attaching bolt goes through the bottom you will see that about 5/8” of thread is not used under the bars. I ran mine like this till I sold it and I put about 3k miles with no issues. Mine was cast steel, stock just like an Iron or Nightster uses.
