I did a test, cause I notice I do not get the miles/gallons of gas I use. I drove it 82.4 miles and just put 3.3 gallons, before the tests I always topped it off but on average I only get 24 miles per gallon, is that normal?
i would say you are running too rich or there is another problem because with my wife and i on the bike (about YOUR weight) we get between 44-50mpg we can go about 170miles before needing reserve... (about 3.5 gal)
things to check!
1. Intake seal leak...
2. exhaust leak...
3. problems with your carb... needle seat worn... float valve worn... bad diaphram.. clogged Emultion tube..

Does it mean anything that I get a lot of back fire on the carb?
I took a day trip yesterday. About 200 mi. I have an 06 883 and am 6'1" and 270. (Fat guy on a little bike- is my theme song.) I got 56 mpg crusin the back roads at 50 to 60 miles per hour. Yepper. Somethins not right. I'd get a new tuners kit from CVP or something similar that you might like. There are a ton of them out there. Cleaned my bike up and she runs like a champ now. Good luck man.
clearly a need for carb adjustment... change your air sucker and pipes, then retune the carb-
at that point you have a choice. better mpg (set it more lean) or better smiles per gallon (set it richer). I chose the later!
Well time to do some research as I am a new rider. And Big_Redneck that would be a good idea but I think you live to far from me and would hate for you to truck your way for me buddy.
