High idle when first started???

High idle when first started???
If I let my 2005 sportster sit for a week or two it idles very high when first started. If I let it run for a min, shut it off, and come back 15 mins later it starts and idles perfectly.
Can someone help me understand what may be going on? I have yet to spray carb cleaner on the seals to check for air leaks, but I've read this may this may cause high idle issues. However - Why the hell is the problem resolved 15 mins later without doing anything?
