Cool Bell - a tradition or ???????

Throughout my HD days I have seen Harley's with bell's (usually one but have seen two before) attached to them, typically near the ground on the front of the frame. What is up with it, is there a tradition I'm missing here or what do they mean/represent??

I have one on my bike, only because the salesperson that sold it to me put it on. Don't know how popular/gay it is, but wtf, I left it on.

Started riding in the `60s, never heard of bells on motorcycles until the internet came along.

Been going on since I can remember, 40+ years of riding, nothing "gay" about it.
The tradition at least in my area was that you didn't buy your own, It would be a gift from another rider wishing you safety where ever you ride.
Good karma these days and times with the driving cell phoners, and getto blasters around.
IMO, just one of the nice things one biker does for another and a part of the brother/sisterhood of motorcyclists.
