I have done some research but I really can't find what I am looking for. I have a 2007 XL883R. I bought it brand new and it is completely stock except for a Rekluse clutch. The bike has less than 800 miles on it so it is fairly new. What I am trying to find out is a good exhaust for it. I like noise but I don't want it over bearing loud. I have also heard if I run a straight pipe exhaust that I will need to buy a computer chip for it so the fuel mapping is right? I also heard if I just run Screamin Eagle exhaust the computer should be able to compensate for the different exhaust? Any input would greatly help.
On another note has anyone had good luck with the Sundowner seat? I love my bike but it is uncomfortable to ride after about 20 miles with the stock seat. I would like to find a seat that would be comfortable for longer trips. Thanks for your time.
Screaming Eagle pipes are not overly loud.I like them myself. No problem running too lean if you change the pipes only.Mustang makes a very comfortable seat
I agree, the Screamin Eagle Street Performance slip ons are probably a good choice. If you are looking for a bit more performance but not too loud, I can recommend Supertrapp Supermegs 2-1, that's what I run.
I have both a Sundowner and a Mustang seat. I prefer the Mustang, but the Sundowner is a good seat IMO. And yeah, the factory seats suck.

I have the Sundowner on my 2007 XL1200L. It's comfortable enough that I can go from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 6hrs without complaints. However, it does look bigger (see the attachment). So if you like your bike to look sleek, the Sundowner will ruin the look. In my case it's ok because the sissy bar and the luggage rack makes the whole rear looks bulkier.
So if I understand correctly I only have to get a fuel pak if i change the whole system but if I just use slip ons I should be ok with just stock mapping?
Doing that will not require any change to the fuel mapping.
First of all great video.
No need to remove mufflers, just grind out the weld with the hole saw and pull the baffle out with a needle nose. Less than ten minutes for both mufflers.
On an 883, the sound w/out baffles is not too loud and makes the engine sound much bigger. On a 1200 it is a LOT louder.
Wouldn't worry about loss of low end torque, Sportsters are short stroke engines, not very torquey, and you still have the crossover pipe connection.
