Default Locking leather saddlebags?

Hi, anyone with these bags know of a way to lock them? Not sure if there's a mod or just some way to lock these. I'm not too comfortable leaving the contents in the bag unlocked.

HD makes saddlebag locks. I don't know your bags. Are the buckles snapped to the main body of the bag as a whole piece? Or is there a top buckle buckled to the bottom part like the two ends of a belt?

With my bags it's two separate pieces. When I buckle the top to the bottom I put a pad lock through the bottom hole under the buckle so it can't be unbuckled. I make sure it's buckled tightly with little to no slack and it's effective.

If your buckle is just a single unit that's snapped to the main body you'll have to use either the HD saddlebag locks or a similar one.

I have the two piece buckles but the chrome buckles r just for looks. There are plastic buckles underneath that clip together. I may be able to utilize the holes in the straps though.

I have a set I put on Craigslist here a while back that have a metal part for a lock to go thru the saddlebag lid and can be secured with a a small lock. Maybe you could get yours modified by someone who works with leather.

You can probably punch a hole at the bottom of the buckle and a hole in the leather/webbing on the bottom piece. A small/medium sized pad lock should be able to fit through both and lock the bag. Just test out which (the left or right) would be the better option. I only use it on the left side and it still prevents anyone from even trying to get their hands in from the side that isn't locked. Then do the same with the other bag.

It's a cheap and effective option.

If it's webbing and not leather on the bottom clip, try inserting an eyelet in the hole you punch to prevent the webbing from fraying. They're cheap.

I hate to say it but I've seen it. Regardless of locks, a knife makes short work on the straps.

Yep. True. If someone wants to get in, no matter what you use they'll get in.

My bags also have 2 D-rings under the lid for locking the bags with a padlock. Which is more secure. I use the straps because in day-to-day use, the straps are much easier. I also figure and know that a determined thief will find a way not matter what. But the one that will try to use an easy opportunity would more likely go somewhere else with the straps locks. Not to mention the prying eyes of kids.
