Default Starter has mind of its own
I've got an 05 1200 custom and while I'm riding, the starter will just start running... Wtf is the deal?!

I would say check the wires to make sure you are notmaking contact from a bare spot on the wire. Just a start point. If not would say the starter itself, the winding inside maybe.

Have the handlebars been replaced? You may need to take apart the starter button to see if there is a short or broken components.

Well the bars have never been changed or modified. And the start button works fine... Does the relay under the seat go to that? Possible that its bad? The bike is not shy of rain as I get stuck in it all the time after work lol. Maybe corroded contacts in it....

Yeah, um, make sure the controls aren't pressing into the tank on turns. That happened to me...

Is the starter just running, or is it trying to engage the ring gear? Solenoid or starter motor?

Try replacing the starter relay that is next to the fuses. It's a common automotive relay that can be found in almost any auto parts store pretty cheap.

My vote is for a bad starter button. Mine went haywire after I washed my bike. It was shorting out. Warranty replaced it.

The starter is engaging and this started day after I washed it. I'll try the relay first since I've got plenty at work. If that don't fix it ill move to the button I guess...
