Getting the longer stemmed mirrors will help along with the flip, with stock mirrors and adjusted to see well they will make contact with the tank in full turn position. I am 6' and can see just fine on my wife's Iron with the longer stems and flip. Neutral will get easier and the engine noise will not get quieter, but I like it.

I noticed all the same things when I got mine. It gets easier to find neutral after a while and it also breaks in a little. The noise you get used to as well I don't even notice anymore.
As for the mirrors, couldn't see squat out of them except my shoulders. I did not want to flip them because quite frankly everyone flips them, it's the first thing they do and I don't want my ride to look like every other iron. I put a set of arlen ness rad iii's on and it was a thousand times better.

I picked up a 2013 this past July. I flipped them too. I even went with 8" Chumps and kept them flipped. The noise is normal. I did a clutch adjustment at 1500 miles and it is much easier to find neutral now.
