Ok so I picked up my 08 Nightster last November with a little over 5k on the clock. The records indicate that the dealer did the 5k service at 4789 in July of 2010. So my question is, should I bother to change the oil? It's only got about 600 miles on it but it's coming up on 3 years old. The records and dip stick both indicate synthetic.
Does oil have an exp date?

syn should not degrade by time normally... dino would -
if it was my bike i would change the oil no matter what cause with that few miles chances are that the bike sat a long time without being run. it could have had moisture and who knows what on the inside. changing the oil is pretty cheap insurance to protect the engine, imo.
Also, it could have been run only briefly, not letting the oil get to the temperature that would get rid of moisture. The exhaust system as well. Buy a can of Seafoam and run a couple tanks through the fuel system.
Take it out for a good warm up and make sure you get rid of all the boogers.
