Default Oil change question

Kinda new to the Harley ownership and have a question. I have a 2006 xl1200c just wandering what the oil change interval is on these bikes. I didnt get owners manual with bike and it has had 10,000 mile service . i now have almost 11,000 on it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Definitely invest in a service manual.

Depending on how you ride (3K/hard-city, or 5K/light-hwy) and then if/when you tuck bike away for long-term storage...like us Northerners.

5k is fine. changing every 3k just puts more money in the oil companies pocket.

A dino oil would easily be good for 5000 miles. A full synthetic im guessing could go for 7500 without risk. I change mine M1VT every 5000 miles. I cant remember when the silly 3 months or 3000 mile thing came out but I do know it was to increase oil company profits having no bearing on oil breakdown.. Car oil change intervals years ago were every 7500 miles.

How would you compare the technology used in your TV today vs. a TV from the 60's?
Oil and motor technology have also come a long way since the 60's, when virtually all vehicle manufacturers called for a 3,000 mile oil change interval because that was the real life expectancy of the oil. The oil you use today, is not the same thing your father or grandfather used in their day.

BTW, the 3000 mile recommendation you still see today often comes from those little reminder stickers the repair shops and quick change oil places put on your windshield to remind you when your next oil change is due. The 3,000 mile interval often written on those stickers isn't about increasing the big oil companies profits, it's about increasing the profits of the oil change businesses.
