Default 883 to 1250 conversion question

I have a 2013 iron 883. I've been looking at the Revolution 1250 upgrade kit. It seems to have plenty of great reviews. I'm also seein that many people suggest doing the cams and heads at the same time. Does anyone have recommendations for these? I currently have V&H air cleaner, exhaust, and fuelpak.

If money is an issue, you dont have to do the heads and cams. You can do them later. But if its not go ahead and do the whole thing. When I did my conversion I went with NRHS for everything, Dan was very helpful when I was deciding on whats cams to get and what level of headwork to go with.

Also ask Beer, he's around here somewhere. Great advise and he has a detailed list of what and what cost plus dyno sheets.

this is the link from my conversion. I used the NRHS kit and only did the jugs and pistons and AC. No head work or cams, I already had pipes installed. Just doing the jugs and pistons will give you a completely new bike with a lot more power and as was mentioned above you can do the heads and cams later if money is an issue. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out, I now have about 11000 kms on the conversion. I was going to do heads and cams this winter but I am now rethinking that idea as money is still an issue and most of the new power would be upper rpm power and the bike is a blast to ride as it is. it is.

I used the SEPST with Smarttune as a tuner which I have found to be a great tuner and software, easy to use and a good value. Most people on this site rant and rave about the Powervision tuner but it was not available when I did my conversion or I may have considered it even though I likely wouldn't have use it since I was pinching pennies and it is more expensive than the SEPST for the base unit and even more for the autotune.

The link above lists the costs that were involved for me and they include the 12% tax I had to pay here in Canada plus shipping for all the parts I bought in the US. I believe that my costs were about $1400 canadian for the 1250 kit, tuner, AC and HD service manual without shipping and tax.

It's going to depend on what you want to do with the bike. If you're not looking to get the most out of it, and never have the intention of "pushing" it, then i'd just go for the 1250 kit - headwork and cams. Me on the other hand, I want the maximum safest limit I can push my sporty within reasonable HP:$$ which is why I chose having my 883 heads sent of for competition valve job, cams, and the 1250 kit. I want the performance out of it but I also want to do everything at the same time vs. having to take it all apart separately. It all depends on what you're trying to do. Me, i don't race so i don't need a rocketsled, but I like speed and the ability to have the power when needed. 1250 w/ ~80Hp on a sportster is plenty, unless you're like 3hundo.

do cams when it is down, as far as buying a 1200 well lets just say I'd put my 883 up against a 1200 any day. LOL

That is the one of the biggest misconceptions about bikes with cams and ported heads. It is just not true. You gain power threw out the entire rpm range.
