That's a good option ;-)

What's the best place to buy the 48 rims....and will they fit my '12 iron..?

Thnxs
Chris
Except for XR1200 & SuperLow, all recent Sportsters have 16x3.00 rear wheel.
A 150 tire is pushing the limit of that rim.
Many 150 tires require a wider rim.
I don't know of any 170 tire that is recommended for a 3.00 rim.
I wouldn't use a Shinko tire, even if it was the right size.
If you squeeze a 170 tire onto a 3.00 rim, it isn't going to be as wide as on correct 4.50 rim.

A Nightster rear wheel should be identical to the 48.
The 48's 32 spoke front wheel might require some spacer experimentation, for axle & rotor.
A 40 spoke front wheel from a Crossbones or Slim might be easier.

I only scrape on big pot holes and its not that bad when I do, but... I'm lowered 2" on lowering blocks and I weigh 160. So idk if that helps.
