Default Those who have recently bought an Iron...how much?

I have had my race car for sale for a little while and am finally getting interest in it. Once I sell it I'm buying my Iron. I took my basic riders course a couple weeks ago and passed my license tests last week, now all I need is a bike.

I'm wondering what they are going for right now. They seem to have slowed a bit since I last looked. I'm wanting a black denim iron and they were hard to come by but the local dealer has had one on the floor for a while now.

I'm no stranger to dealing with salesman, longest I've haggled was 6 hrs for my corvette. Ill also have about $4500 or so to put down and have a 770+ credit score and no debt other than my house which is an easily manageable payment on my salary.

So what prices are you guys getting them for and what are they throwing into the deal?

Thanks for the help!

You will pay MSRP for a Iron. They can't keep them on the floors of most dealers. Maybe if you go in when the 2014s are released and they have a 2013 iron left over. You might get a deal. But other than that it's gonna be MSRP for that Iron.

I expected as much but I've also heard of people paying over msrp. Msrp is 7,999 so plus tax, license and all that I'm thinking in the $9200 range. Some dealers will throw stuff in though like Harley bucks or something.

Wish I could find a '12 so I wouldn't have to smog it

sounds pretty close to what I paid. I think it was $9300 out the door. Tax, title license. Put down 4500.

I told him what I wanted to pay. And left. they called me before I even got home. went and signed the papers the next day.

I've looked at a few but guys go pay 9k+ for a bike, put 5k miles on it and a windscreen and slip ons and want 10k for it. Besides the most I could put down would be 5k but I need to buy some gear too.

That's good, I was hoping for better but glad to know I'm close. What are our payments if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking with 4500 down they would be in the $100 a month range?

Electricman, can I give you another alternative...buy used? There's no shame in it as long as you do your homework and know what to look for.

There are heaps of "newer" used Irons out there...and lots of them just happen to be in black denim, the most common color. Many can be had for quite a decent deal, so check your local area and you might be surprised what you come up with...try Craig's list, Cycle Trader, etc., which, outside of helping you get an idea of what's out there, will also give you some kind of idea of what they're going for.

I "happened" upon a great deal on my bike at a local dealership of all places. I wandered in one day and started hawking over a [un]shiney new black denim when the salesman walked over. He said "So you like the Iron model?" to which I replied "Yeah I think it's pretty bad looking, but I'm looking for a used one"...he then walked me a few feet away to their "pre owned" section where there was a 2010 denim silver Iron and a 2011 '48. He said "What about one of these?" I really liked the '48 with it's gloss black fenders, metalflake blue peanut fuel tank, V&H staggered short shots and a dealer installed "Stage 1" upgrade but the 5 digit price tag was more than I was willing to shell out. My response to the silver denim Iron was "eh..." He said "Well, we get used bikes in all the time so stop in every week and there's bound to be something here that you'd like."

I had intensions of scoring a denim black model but after a while the flat silver just sorta' grew on me. I started liking the difference of color separationg between the tins and black engine, the forks, oil tank and battery cover, and lastly the limited amount of chrome on the exhaust and pushrod covers pretty much alone by themselves to throw in the mix was almost the final touch...hmmmmmmm...

The very next week I wandered in again and the salesman told me of a used silver '09 in the back that had come in with forwards on it [I'm 6'-0"] but would be a couple weeks before they had it out on the sales floor. 2 weeks? Puzzled I just took off but returned again a few days later and asked to see the bike. Rather reluctantly the salesman took me around back to another building where there were no less than 12 bikes with plastic over them. He uncovered the '09 and there it was, filthy as can be, with a dented tank and rusted fenders. He went on to explain how the PO had gone through a divorce and it had sat "a while" on the side of the house uncovered. Ugh. Anyway, when I put my hand on the tank it moved...he said, "Oh yeah...remember that silver 2010 out on the showroom floor? That bike came in with this dent in the tank so we swapped tanks and ordered new tins for this one so we could get the 2010 out on the floor for sale."

Opportunity knocks.

I asked him what he wanted for the bike and he said "$6999." To which I replied. "Now why would I spend 7 grand on an out of warrantee 2009 when I could spend a grand more and have a BRAND new one with no miles on it and two years of warrantee?" He looked at me and said "How about $6500?" Well, I had searched the net for weeks looking for these bikes and the cheapest I had seen an '09 for was $6000 with 14,000 miles on it somewhere out in Wyoming or some ****, so I boldly asked "How about you give me a scratch and dent sale? How does $6000 sound and you give ME the new tins when they come in?" He said "$6000 and the tins...you're gonna' put them on?" "Yep" I said." He looked at the floor for a few seconds and replied, "You know, I got 18 used bikes here that I gotta' move...6 grand and you put the tins on?" "Yep!" I said. He put his hand out and we shook on it. Done deal.

The next day I was at the dealership with a bank check and took that sucka' home. In the next three weeks I had the two fenders and fuel tank all brand spankin' new in the box from HD.

The bike had only 1360 miles on it and had already had the 1000 mile service done on it, and it ran great...I cleaned it like a **** and swapped the fenders [still need to do the tank, but I think the small dent gives it "character" LOL], put exhaust, intake and tuner on it and it runs like a sewing machine, at 2-3 grand less than new. And I'm as happy as a lark.

So check into used, you can save some decent $$ and still be happy.

=8^)

Not an Iron, but I got my Nightster for MSRP, and got the dealer to cover the taxes. Saved me about $600.00

Two strategies, but I was working with one dealer who gave me the run around for two weeks - called another dealer who had one in stock and said I'd pick it up that day if they covered the tax. First dealer was a tool, who I had to bargain with for a few days to get the tax covered.
