Default Question about Cycle Shack

I have an 05 883. I have a set of cycle shack slip ons coming in the mail tomorrow. Does any one know if I could get a ticket for these being too loud? From what I hear, they are really loud. Loud enough to get a ticket? For example, in NH, which I will probably go atleast once or twice a year, has a law of 106db at 2500rpm. Will I get a ticket?

Also, just out of curiosity, I don't have a tachometer on my bike. How will they know when I am at 2500rpm?

I have Cycle Shacks and I don't think they're that loud compared to most pipes I've heard. No idea if you'd get a ticket, I live in MO. As for the RPM, at 2500 you are just a little beyond lugging the engine. So you should feel that the engine is not lugging at all but running smoothly at 2500. On a flat straight-a-way, 2500 will probably be the RPM that you feel comfortable running without looking at a tach. Besides that, it's a little difficult to explain how 2500 feels. I have a tach and I usually cruse between 2500 and 2800 depending on grade.

I listened to a few videos on YouTube of 1200's with cycle shacks. They sound pretty tame. Besides, if you get a good set of baffles they should be well below 75 db's or less. A good rule of thumb is for it to be quieter than a locomotive horn, which is a minimum of 96 dB(A) and no louder than 110 dB(A). Gives you a great idea of just how loud 103 dB(A) really is.

They're basically the SE IIs. "Medium" loud. You should be fine. You can always put a q baffle in it if it is too much.

My understanding is that these are not at loud as the V&H Short Shots, which I have and measured the dB rating at 96-102 at idle. I'd imagine it's much louder than that when on the throttle. So two points:

1. If cycle shacks are in fact not as loud as mine, you should be fine at idle
2. I'm not sure how someone would measure your dB accurately while you're riding down the road

So I think you'll be fine.

Actually anything louder than stock can be a ticket in all most all States, It really comes down to the Cop, if you are not revving it in his/her face or sitting off car alarms at 4AM most Cops wont mess with you but there is always that one ***** Cop who might. It doesn't matter what State I'm in, when I see an Officer I do my best to keep the noise down if possible because one never knows which one is the *****?
