You'll be fine. There are 2 kinds of riders - those that have dropped their bikes and liars.

Park it until the MSF course, you'll learn a ton there and then try it again. Practice the friction zone stuff they teach you there and then try more at your own pace. Motorcycling is an awesome experience and you'll be laughing about your rocky start in no time.

When I did MSF I had a lot of experience already but I appreciated the way they taught the class. I wish someone would have taught me the friction zone exercises (hmmm... I like all this friction zone talk...) when I was 11 on a dirtbike for the first time. I didn't wreck a bike until I was almost 26, had taken the MSF and had a lot of road hours under my belt. Pushed a friend's crotch rocket a little too hard on a road I didn't know and had to lay the bike down or hit a parked car. Laid the bike down, came away relatively unscathed but totaled the bike. **** happens.

Well I feel stupid. A friend came by and brought over his 883 super low just to see what I may be doing wrong. I have a 2007 883 custom. One thing he pointed out was I can not reach the ground flat footed which I knew. So I was trying to balance the MC on my tows then swing them up to the forward controls while I tried to take off. I was already off balance before I ever got going.

He had me sit on his bike and I was flat footed and he has mid controls. He let me try his and I did just fine going straight. I am saving the turning once eI learn that at the course. I guess I bought a bike that wasn't really meant for me I guess. I just went by what the salesman said. I should have dome research so I don't blame the salesman.

I am going to switch mine to mid controls and see about lowering the bike about 2" or so.

I had the same problem when I bought my first bike. The salesman only cared about getting the cash, not whether or not I was comfortable. Being able to have both feet flat on the ground is a must. Good luck dude, keep us posted on how things go. And grow thick skin in here, I had to learn too.

Default maybe

ride a pedal bike around or get a lower powered lighter bike. my first bike was a 1986 honda shadow vt500c. it also helps if you understand driving a stick shift car. the theory is the same, the execution is a little different.

You probably just shouldn't post on this thread anymore.

I'm with this guy, but maybe a small dirt bike with a cluch rather than any street bike. I rode my first motor bike when i was 6 and did not fall 3 times, I don't think I fell once till I stated riding hard. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but bikes are not for all and you might fall into that not for all groupe-no pun intended. This is why when I hear someone say I have never rode a motorcycle, but i'm going to get one it freaks me out, it should come second nature IMO.
