As a sworn public servant and military combat veteran, I know about the implications of drinking and driving. I do appreciate your due regard to my own safety and your opinion. But I do believe that you misunderstood the concept "bar hopper." Not all people who frequent and visit bars are alcoholics; drink without due regard or drink to jeopardize their safety or the safety of others. Bars, could be hangout spots, socialize, meeting places, musical live events, etc etc. But thanks for your concern "opinion" however, highly misunderstood.

The 48 is what brought me back to Harley. There are lots of better brands out there, but they all look the same. The 48 has a unique style that made me buy it at first sight.

That said, the engine has lots of problems and the dealership closed down and the nearest on is a good 90 minute round trip. If it wasn't for the 48, I'd dump the Harley in a heartbeat.

As far as the small tank, I only put 1,000 miles a month on it, so it's not like I'm traveling all over the nation. HD sells the bigger tank for it now, anyways. Honestly, When I go long distance, I take the Chrysler.

I bought a forty eight last month, put about 1100 miles on it and absolutely love it. Change out the seat first thing

What are the "engine problems" you speak of?

When the term "Bar-hopper" is used when speaking of Harley's it is not meant to be taken literally (i.e. to go from Bar to Bar) it means more of a city bike or a short travel bike. One would not call a Road Glide that is made to travel hundreds and hundreds of miles per-sitting a Bar-Hopper.

A friend has the 2011 48 and I a 2013 Forty-Eight which I have had since Oct. 2012 and I along with my friend have had Zero problems when it comes to the motor. The sportster motor is the best running with the least problem motor Harley has ever made. So please tell me what problem the forty-eight motor has???

My 48 is the greatest thing since sliced bread It's even better than whole wheat bread!

I first decided to buy a bike cause of the 883. But after returning to the showroom over and over, the 48 just felt "right". My advice to you would be to go to the showroom everyday for a week and sit on the bikes. Eventually one will call to you and you'll figure it out It may be the 48, it may be the 883....who knows? I'm glad I did what I did and OCD'd on it for 2 weeks. It really helped me make the right decision. I'm very happy and have no regrets whatsoever. Heck, since you already have a motorcycle license, go and test ride them!

Good luck!

I get a acceleration power surge in the lower gears a lot. I get a front 02 sensor error code.

Other little things that are really annoying.

A while back, every spoke in both wheels came loose at the same time.

Like I said, if this was another model, I'd dump it in a heartbeat. As it stands, I'll slowly change out everything Harley.

"Bar-hopping" by definition, and as described by the Oxford English Dictionary as well as others, and described here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_hopping
Does indeed mean to go from one bar/pub to the next drinking at each. So when someone asks if a certain bike would be good to use for "Bar Hopping" they are talking about drinking at a bar, then getting on their bike and going to another bar to drink some more, again, and again, and again. If you and they are talking about doing anything else OTHER THAN DRINKING WHEN YOU OR THEY GO FROM BAR TO BAR, then you and they are the ones using the wrong terminology to describe what you or they mean.

I for one, don't think any bike (or other vehicle) would be good for "Bar-Hopping" since I don't believe in drinking and driving at all.

The 48 is in my opinion, the best bike harley makes. It's the only reason I got a harley tbh. It's comfortable, no bags, no unnecessary bullshit, just a slick all around badass bike. Take it however you want. Here's my bike

I don't see how that's even possible, I've never had even one problem.
