Does indeed mean to go from one bar/pub to the next drinking at each. So when someone asks if a certain bike would be good to use for "Bar Hopping" they are talking about drinking at a bar, then getting on their bike and going to another bar to drink some more, again, and again, and again. If you and they are talking about doing anything else OTHER THAN DRINKING WHEN YOU OR THEY GO FROM BAR TO BAR, then you and they are the ones using the wrong terminology to describe what you or they mean.

I for one, don't think any bike (or other vehicle) would be good for "Bar-Hopping" since I don't believe in drinking and driving at all.
Bar Crawling is completely different than using the term "Bar Hopping or Bar Hopper" when describing a type of a motorcycle- It is a Biker slang which describes a motorcycle that is not very comfortable on longer rides, yet lavishly styled. Rigid frames and hardtails fall into this category, some add the sportster to this list.

Just like when explaining a "CAFE Bike", Cafe literally means a Cafeteria a place one would go to have a sandwich or a cup of coffee but in the motorcycle world "SLANG" it means a Cafe racer, a strip down motorcycle that places the rider over the fuel tank and is very nimble and fast.

Just looking to get different views/opinions on the Iron, this will be a city bike, bar hopper. Just looking for opinions, its that simple but thanks for the advice...
Hey wait a minute...wasn't it the '48 you were asking about and not the Iron? But ok I'm sorry. Sometimes I'm bad at 'splainin' things [I come across as a wise a$$ to those who don't recognize my love of sarcasm, sorry man] or perhaps I misunderstood...I was just trying to point out that generally speaking, you would probably be getting nothing but good opinions of the '48 from those who "happen" to own one here, just like you would if you were asking about the Iron, or any one of the other specific Sportster models.

And I only say this because it's a fairly rare occurance to have someone here talk about their Sportster in a negative way, outside of the one or two unfortunate souls who seemed to have gotten a lemon or had extremely bad dealership experiences.

[The most complaints I've seen are that the factory seat is good for about an hour before it feels like you're sitting on pavement and @ 2.2 gallons the tank is too small; udder than that it rawwwwwwwks]

That said, you know you want one, so buy it!

And that sir is my "updated" internet forum advice to you; all betterer now?

LOL.

Default I love my 48

Actually, I love my 48, I have owned other Harleys in the past [ Elecra Glide, Super Glide, XLCH Sportster, all AMF bikes. Never had any problems with them. After numerous lay-offs and getting the kids through college, I bought a Honda. Nothing wrong with that, but when I saw the 48 I knew it was for me. I have 4500 miles on it with no trouble at all. It's way better than my old XLCH especilly starting it. As far as I'm concerned, the 48 is the best bike Harley has made.

I am sorry for not realizing that he meant something else but then I am not the only one who did. Roni also made comments about drinking and riding before I did. And I was commenting on the fact that the person I quoted in my statement was saying that his "bar hopping" may be for going to bar for other reasons like socializing, meetings and other stuff. And since most of those things also are associated with drinking when at bars, is why I made my comment. What you are calling "bar hopping" we just called "short hops" for the last 47 years. I do know a lot of riders that call it "bar hopping" when they go out riding and drinking from bar to bar, I guess they are all wrong too.

Again, sorry, I have only been riding bikes for 47 years and haven't really hung out with the hard core bikers that have memorized all the biker lingo that I guess I should have set to memory like you must have done. Hell, I don't even think there was a biker lingo dictionary when I started riding bikes, but I may be wrong about that too, so I'll apologize for that in advance.

I chose the 48 because it fits my needs perfectly. The price was right, the looks are spot on, it has just enough power and it's easily customizable. Did I mention it looks awesome? At 62, I choose not to travel on a motorcycle and use it to buzz around town, go to work, run errands and generally enjoy riding it. It has caused more favorable comments and looks and started more conversations than any other bike I've owned and believe me, there have been a few! The paint and finish are perfect and I love the color as well. Quite honestly, I've never been happier with any other motorcycle I've owned. It's small enough that getting it out to ride isn't an effort and pushing it around it no problem (for washing or installing components.) And while at the present, there aren't a ton of accessories for this model, I have a feeling that will continue to change.

I sold my 1010 Kawasaki Z1000 to get the 48 because I realized that the speed generated by the big Z really belonged on the track and the 48 is the "back to basics" true motorcycle experience that I love so much. "It ain't about the speed, it's about the ride" rings true for me. While the 48 certainly isn't the fastest, the most comfortable, the most powerful or the most sophisticated bike I've owned, it damn sure is the most fun to ride.... and THAT'S why I ride!

So I would guess that "we" feel all over the place on the '48, just like "we" do about every other bike! I would venture to say that most who own one will say that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, which wouldn't surprise me in the least, unless they had an Iron, in which case those guys would say that their Iron was the best thing since sliced bread, while the guys who have the softtails will say that...

'Best to decide for yourself instead of letting everyone else decide for you.

Wish all this would fit in my sig, this made me lol.

I prefer the Iron. Test drove the 48 and then the Iron, obviously selected the Iron, but that's just me.

I havent found anything I couldnt make fit It doesnt have to be "made for a 48" to work. If something from a 32 Ford catches your eye you can incorporate it into your bike.

Right on. 62 or 22, the 48 fills the need for a city bike with style.
