I am riding from NYC to Portland, Oregon in two weeks. Gonna take two weeks to get there. Should be fun. Riding a 2013 72. Riding with a Triumph Scrambler and two other Harley's. One of which is my dad. I can't wait.
Already have the MSR bottles, haha. I have the HD spring seat and it seems pretty comfy. I figure I will try a seat cover and if that doesn't work I will buy a new seat and ship this one home!

The spring will probably be great for your spine but you're gonna want some cushion for your ***. Trip sounds awesome, I'm very jealous. Just did a Memorial Day trip with three other guys and one was on a 72, prepare to take some jokes at every gas stop.
I might see you on the road.. I am leaving Fort Drum, NY end of the month and driving to Fort Lewis, WA. If you see a Silverado with a blue 72 in the bed, pulling u-haul followed by a SUV... you know it's me : )
Seriously though, ride safe. Sounds like a great trip ahead of ya!
Did a very similar ride back in 1988 with my father. He rode out from Cali to meet me in North Carolina, then we rode back to Calif together. He was on a 86 Tour Glide Classic and me on my 84 Low Rider. Took 7 days and It was the best time me and Dad had ever had together. Enjoy and be safe.
What i've found awesome for the seat comfort issue, is wearing cycling shorts underneath your pants. They have that padding in the seat area since cycling seats have horrid comfort. I wear these every long trip and my *** thanks me (i swear, I hear it say "thank you")

Ah, Ft. Lewis was my first duty station way back when the 9th ID was still around. Great riding out there. My most memorable ride was out to Hoquiam and then up to the Forks area. Yeah, that was before all of the Twilight stuff. Nice town. The ride down to Mount St Helens is cool too. Anyway, be safe out there.
