first off the bike is a 05 Sporty Low 883, only 5,000 miles, very few mods done but it does have a LED tail light. So currently the bike gets NO POWER, when key is turned ON the bikes light dont come on, the speedometer doesnt light up, obviously the bike cant be started either. This problem happened oddly enough right after the last oil change I did, ran before the oil change, but now it doesnt. I checked the fuses they are all intact, battery isnt dead and I even tried jumping the bike, no power at all. I'm thinking it is either a short or a ground, but dont have a voltage reader yet, another thought maybe I over filled the oil? I was using a 5 quart bottle and just filled the reservior tank til it was almost too the top, didnt measure it ( i know very unprofessional, wont be doing that again) Does anyone think this could possibly have too do with the bike loosing power? Thanks for ANY and ALL input. JT.
check the maxi fuse,, it's this giant fuse right off the battery, there's a box on the side of the battery bracket, the maxi-fuse is in that box. who knows why it would have blown but sounds like that could your problem, minus checking all the battery connections, inluciding the ground to the engine block.
When the gentlemen suggested checking the ground wire, more specifically, you need to grab the ground wire down by the frame connection, and pull it. They are notorious for corroding inside the sheathing, which results in the individual strands breaking off.

+1
Every year I take the ground wire off, wire brush both cable ends, apply dielectric grease, and then reassemble (actually I do that with both cables, but the ground cable is almost always the culprit). It's a habit I got into because of the problem you're having, which is exactly the same I had my first year of ownership. I've not experienced it since I started my annual "process" described above. Sportster ground wire = PITA!
