Default TSSM module dilemma, help!

I bought a 2007 883 Sportster Custom. Only after taking it to the garage for some parts replacement I found out that the previous owner had lost both the fob and the security code before he passed away. The Harley dealers I talked to said that I need to buy a new TSSM module and of course a new fob. Total estimated cost $700. I cannot believe that I can't just buy a new fob and have it matched with the existing TSSM without knowing the code. Otherwise all the used TSSM modules for sale on Internet what are good for?

Thanks

Unless you really NEED the security system, you can replace the TSSM with a (cheaper) TSM.

^ +1 the security system is pretty useless anyway, unless of course the guys loading it into a van get spooked by the super scary flashing turn signals.

I think the TSSM and a fob surely is less then $700. Mine only has the flashers but I could care less. What I like it the fact that I never lock it unless leaving it out in the really bad places. My guess it the ebay items have the code or are China clones. This looks like real Harley, needs a FOB but less then$150. I think the FOB is teachable ebay 300918550140

My TSSM did go bad. I replaced it with a TSM.

I never missed that lame attempt at a security system.

from what I understood, they cost almost the same. I could get a much cheaper used one but I was told that unless you have the security code you cannot run the coupling procedure with the ECM. It is not enough to stick another module in, it must be brand new. If it was ever initialized with another ECM you cannot re-install it unless you have the security code. Does anybody have direct experience with a case like this?
