Default engine question?

I just got back from a long ride on my 1200 xl and noticed there was a bit of oil on saddle bag on air cleaner side. I checked oil it was fine plugs looked fine, when I took off air cleaner I found the bottom of air cleaner inside had a decent amount of gas/oil it seems. The bike will occasionaly pop out of carb here and there. The two holes on each end of air cleaner base what I am only guessing is blow by tubes, there is rubber o rings on the tubes and the rear one where most this stuff is coming from the o ring is half gone and the plastic air cleaner mount where its supposed to align up the plastic is messed up as well like it wasent aligned up right. I plan on getting a new air cleaner and replacing both of those o rings. Can anyone tell me if that might be whats happening here? I just don't want to hurt the motor at all and I am fairly new to these bikes and just need some advice. Thanks for any help.

Jason

U will always get some oil in the air cleaner. I haven't heard off it coming out the side like u explain. My guess would be oil is probly over filled. Even when it is at the full mark u will get a lot. Most guys say to fill in the middle of the full and fill marks on the stick.this should fix ur problem.

If the o ring is shot the oil level probably had nothing to do with it leaking

Oil is always checked hot. You should check your owners or service manual for your bike.

I run my oil at 1/4 to 1/3 up the dipstick.

Just went to hardware and installed new o rings. Will also double check dip stick. The o ring in rear was with out a doubt no good. Only half left. That was also where most of oil was coming from it seems. At least that end.

Pop the dip-stick; it's there.
