Default Tire suggestions

I have an '01 Sportster Sport. Chew through rears like no tomorrow. Front is finally ready for replacement so wanted to gain some experienced input for replacements. I want a durable rear tire and a really sticky front. Not so much concerned about the durability of the front since it is so skinny to start with, but want to keep my girl safe when two-up. The bike is completely stock. I would prefer to stay all one brand front and back but if you have a recipe that I should hear about, lay it on me. I am not so diehard about brand loyalty to not consider something different. Thanks for taking the time to post. Dave.

For both good tire mileage and handling, I'd recommend the Michelin Commander II's. It's a much better tire than the stock Dunlops.

Thank you for the input Charley. I will research the Mich's. I have to say, I was really disappointed with Dunlop's site as I hoped to get some compound numbers for each tire but instead got a subjective handjob in the form of "a really durable, high-performance tire". That doesn't help me much. Doesn't say compared to what.

I don't know that you will get a lot of tech data on most of the tires out there, especially Michelin. About the best thing we have to work with is other rider experiences. The Commander II is a relatively new tire and the rider reviews overall look very good.

Also, many people will tend to talk only about tires by brand name. This is like saying all Fords are the same. Dunlop does make some very good tires, like the E3. Unfortunately the better Dunlops don't come in sizes that fit a stock Sporty.

Among other often mentioned tires is the Avon Venom or Cobra. It's an very good handling tire, but that seems to come at the expense of tire mileage due to a softer rubber compound.
