When I bought my new to me 99 EG Standard 3 months ago the indy put 2 new tires on it, they are called Mitsu something, can't remember the whole name, after 5k miles the tread on the back tire is almost gone, wth?? Anybody give me a name of a good tire, and should I just replace both, having never put new tires on a bike before I don't want to mix different brands and have the bike not ride good, me and the wife are planning a long trip to Key West. Also do you guys that go on long trips carry a tire repair kit?
Older touring like you have is known for tires not lasting long. I have run Dunlop elite 3's in the past and loved them but you will get a lot of different oppinions on which tire is best.
As for a tire repair kit I carry the stop and go kit. Fixes tubeless tires on the go without any problems. Offered with and without air-up equipment incase you already have a tire pump.
[quote=mkguitar;10318507]Dunlop 402's, like stock.
They run me about $160 mounted/ balanced from the local Indy (blackwall)
these are a 10,000 + tire.
Of course, wearing the rear can indicate poor braking technique, under-inflation or over loading.
But if you can't pronounce it--- do you want it on your bike ?
No, I don't want it on there any longer, I take car of my things, is not under inflated, I ride one up mostly and don't carry a lot on the bike, is probably just a cheap tire the indy puts on before they sell it claiming it has 2 new tires and a full service, the full service is changing the oil lol.
There are plenty of tyre threads on here! Stick with the main brands and you won't go wrong, such as Avon, Continental, Dunlop, Metzeler, Michelin and Pirelli. Personally I always avoid what I will call the fringe brands. With Mrs B on board plus luggage we roll along at around 1200 pounds and I want the very best underneath us, not a cheap substitute!
Ok, thanks, the indy put 2 new Mitsutomo tires on my bike before I bought it, after 5k miles the back is almost worn out, it also makes a humming noise at 60 mph, stops if I lean either way. Just trying to figure out what to put on, want to replace both before me and the wife go on our long trip to Key West.
