I just spoke to my adjuster and he told me that my bike (07 Nightster with 7800 miles) was very close to being a total loss, and he "called in the value on it" and was waiting to hear that number - implying it may be totaled, or just barely won't be totaled.
So I am waiting for him to get back to me, but I am curious how much they will value the bike? Nada has it at 7200, Kelly BB is 6500, and some estimator I found on Cycltrader.com is 8100. I checked my three local HD dealers and none had an EFI sporty for sale for less than 7000.
....and I paid 6300 for it 3 years ago when it had 1400 miles and have added about 1200 in upgrades.
Any ideas on what I could expect? I have never had to deal with Ins before.
good luck. Ins. companies always say they are there for you until it's time for them to pay up. Someone on a different bike hit mine this past year and it took me almost 3 months for them to pay me the $1200 damage.
one of mine was wrecked very bad last yr and totaled !!
was knocked unconcious an badly hurt blah blah blah
they paid within 2 weeks not sure i dont remember , no longer then that (gieco)
they also paid the towing, and storage fees,
and paid somewhat for parts that i added
anytime u buy something SAVE the copies !! lesson learned lol
it was the most smooth transaction i have ever had ,
they even called back when i was out of hosp to ask how i was doing an such !!
im guessin they will total it -
i know most insurance will also factor in the cost of labor
if it cost more with parts AND then the added labor costs
they will total if its close

I guess every insurance company is different. I've always been paid promptly and fairly when I had a vehicle totalled.
Well this is Nationwide and so far they have been great. They sent someone right out and they were straight forward about reimbursing me for my helmet and riding jacket even though I they were not damaged.

I would be happy to get Blue Book for it.
Wow that actually sounds like they are playing ball. That raises a good point in terms of coverage regarding jackets, gear and helmets, etc......I have a Roland Sands Leather coat that wasn't cheap. I am going to contact my insurance company and see if this can be added as a rider.
I would expect you will be satisfied in the end. Obviously you are well enough to be on the forum. So hopefully nothing to serious. I had a negative experience with Nationwide as a victim were terrible. But sounds like you have found a decent adjuster. My wife had a spill on her 07 883XL, and I was surprised at the value they placed on the bike.
Yep, the only thing I tore was my left shoe lace, not even a scratch on me, I was extremely lucky.
What did they give you for your wife's bike, if you don't mind me asking.
Her bike wasn't totaled. They way a total is figured out is they take the value of the bike(accessories included), minus the damage, plus the salvage value, and they come out within a certain percentage, they total the bike. But the adjuster told me they don't like total them if possible. I think hers was valued with accessories around $6500.
