Default Cleaning chrome mufflers

Sorry new at this . Noticed the other day got a bunch of black dots like loose asphalt or something not sure what it is on the chrome pipes. Any idea on how to clean them off with out scratching them off or completely botching them up ?
Any ideas are welcomed

As mentioned above, use the tar & bug remover and let it soak into the spots a while to soften them up. Then wipe off with a clean rag. Next, wash the entire area clean with soap and water or windex. If you still have some residue/water spots, you can clean them up real well using a light touch with "0000" [that's 4 zero] steel wool, the finest grade steel wool available...it won't scratch the chrome. You'll be amazed at how bright & shiny it'll come out.

I had the same on my new Iron. After riding and with the pipes hot I wiped them off. After they cooled I used Turtle Wax Bud n Tar remover to get rid of the remaining residue, then polished with Mothers like Jerry mentioned. Looking good now.

If it truly is tar, mineral spirits or turpentine applied liberally and well rubbed with a cloth will easily remove those spots. Clean off residue with alcohol, apply chrome cleaner of your choice, wax, and they will look great again. No need to buy "special" cleaners.

Try using a damp dryer sheet and then wash with sosp and water. I done this on my jeep and it worked very well.
