Yes I have searched other threads and yes I have a service manual. Oh, and yes I have done a diagnostic mode check and there are no codes in the system.
Now that I've got that out of the way....
This morning I started my 2009 XL883L and it died. I raised one eyebrow and started her again. She idled a little funny and the check engine light came on and after about five seconds it went back off again.
So now here is where I find myself. I start her up and after about 3 seconds the check engine light comes on for about five seconds and then it goes back off again. Every time.
I have VH duke intake and VH short shots with quiet baffels. I have the power commander v so I verified my map setting and the throttle position sensor 0-100. It's calibrated. I pulled the PCV off and it still does the same thing.
In review... Light comes on even with PCV removed and there are no codes reading out on my speedo when I do the diag mode.
Any ideas?
Respectfully,
Allen
BTW. She's got 15200 miles on her and all services are up to date.
Also, I made sure my coil wires were nice and snug and also checked all of the wires going to my throttle body to make sure they are snug too. Also checked the vacuumed line that goes to charcoal canister on CA models. Nothing.
The engine light on my 2005 XL1200R has done the same thing for years. It drove me nuts for quite a while as I had no diag codes either, and no adverse issues ever surfaced. I simply got used to it coming on and still notice it, but it no longer "bugs" me.
That is usually the sign that there are codes stored in the system. Maybe check again. If none I have no idea. Have you recently done any mods?
No new mods. She's been the same for about 13,000 miles. There are no codes in the system so it's throwing me a curve too. Not one to lean into either. Bugging the crap out of me not knowing what's going on.
I have extended care plan and I made an "appointment" to turn her in for service. But I hate the idea of leaving her there for days and days when it could be something so simple as an idle sensor or something. But NO DARN CODES!
Ok, I had a similar problem with my Wideglide. It ended up being a weak (not totally shelled out) relay. I'm not sure if it is the same on Sporty's as Dyna's, but on mine it was the one labeled System relay on the pic. Like I said it was just weak, not making good connection all the time. I think it was about a 12.00 part at NAPA. If you take your old one in they can match numbers on it. Not saying this is it, but worth a try...
