SMART move! If the tail light is lit, and neither brake activates the brake light, it sounds like the second filament in the bulb to me!

That's because u broke or lost the tab the I was telling u about I just cut a piece of rubber tube and stuck it between the lever and the button problem solved been good over a year

You can replace the switch (it's a switch) yourself, but shop prices. A dealer near me wanted $60.00 , i've seen them as low as $16.00. Or you can do some american ingenuity, and fix it for free as mentioned an a previous response....
