I recently put apes on my bike and had to extend all the wires, everything works.. except my brake light. The tail light works, but when I push front, or rear brakes the brake light does not get any brighter..
Could there be a problem where I extended all the wiring for my controls..
or could it be something as simple as a bulb.
thanks for the help.
In the front brake lever there is a tab that needs to be depressed if you took the front break lever off u likely lost the clip that depresses it . It is just a little rubber button in the handle depress it W/your finger or a small screwdriver see if that changes things for ya had a problem like that before
I took the brake lever off the bars, i didnt remove it from the housing, still possible to lose it?
& the brake light doesnt light up when I push the rear brakes either..
Ok the problem for me was the brake light was on all the time & I didn't even know it because the clip is what helps close the circuit when u put on the brake it opens and turns on the break light with out the clip it wont close the little rubber button in the handle enough to turn the break light off. u only have to loosen the break assembly to take it off the old bars that's enough to loose it. Its real easy to get a little screwdriver in there and push it closed to see if its your problem . hope that helps. And yes had same issue W/back break to because front break was the cause of the break light staying on
This is the little botton for the switch, red circle. Often, the little button gets broken when removing/installing the brake lever. As mentioned above, the brake lever pushes on the button when the lever is in its out, normal position. When you pull the lever, it releases the button, turning the brake light on. If that button is missing, the brake light stays on. Give it a push and see if your brake light goes to the dimmer running light brightness.
I epoxied the head of a 8 penny nail to my broken button (to take up the slack created when I broke the button) about 5 years ago and haven't had any problems. Other creative fixes can be found around here, somewhere.
I gonna try picking up a new light bulb after work & give that ago.
That little button in the lever. Pretty noticeable? I just don't wanna full take it apart if I have no idea what I'm lookin for
