Default Do I need to re map?

Alright guys this is my first post and first harley so I need some expertise. I just purchased a 2013 Harley Iron from a private party. The bike has a little over 4000 miles on it. The previous owner added cycle shack 2 1/2 inch side slash slip on mufflers and the harley heavy breather with a stage one download. He had the bike tuned with the cycle shacks with baffles installed but I guess he took the baffles out about 500 miles after the stage one download. When I bought the bike he no longer had the baffles. The bike runs fine with no popping or pinging. It does have a flat spot in the mid torq but the low and high feel great. My question is do I need to re map because the baffles were removed. I am saving up for some V&H short shots so I would prefer to save my money if possible and not do this if it isn't dire. He said the Ecm would compensate for minor changes automatically so the baffles being removed would not hurt anything, is that true? I appreciate any help you could offer. I have followed the threads on this forum for a long time prior to buying a bike and I know that you guys know your ****. Also if I spelled anything wrong I apologize I am typing this with my thumbs on my phone.

Lucky, when you say it was mapped, are you talking about the HD download. If so that just ups the rev limiter, A true tune you have to get some type of tuner.

Ya he said he got the download when he did the stage 1. So will I hurt the engine without the tuner? My plan was to save up and get some side shots and a power commander, but for right now is the bike good to ride?

Welcome and enjoy the bike. The HD downloads are still EPA compliant and therefore lean as hell, but other than leaving some power on the table and running hotter than it would with a good tune you're not going to break anything. Save your money until you get the new exhaust and then look at a tune on the bike. There's a million opinions on what type of tune and which tuner, but that's a whole other thread......

Cool to remap or not to remap

you said the bike has a stage 1 download, but has a flat spot in the midrange! the stage 1 could have been done incorrectly. it is my understanding that slip on exhausts don't require a remap. good luck. cheers from montana

Said he had a heavy breather on there as well. I don't think there's too much difference between baffles and no baffles. Maybe enough for your flat spot but not enough to do damage to the bike. When you completely change out the exhaust invest in a decent tuner. You'll be happy with the results.

The stage one download is generic as hell and was never custom tuned for the components on your bike to begin with. Baffles or no baffles would not make a difference on how close the download was. No baffles will effect your bottom end usually, in this case it sounds like you mid range is hurting. You can pick up some baffles for a reasonable price while waiting to get a full exhaust. This will make it perform and sound better. Another option is bct baffles that you can check out here.

Welcome to the Forum, and congrats on the new to you ride!

For $25 you can get rid of the flat spot.

Click HERE and look at the dyno charts down at the bottom. You will also get a pretty good bump in power in the low and mid range.

These will also work with the Short Shots, which will have the same lack of low and mid range as the cycle shacks.

Nothing wrong with getting some XiED's or a real tuner, like the Power Vision either. But I would go step by step and see what each new components adds one at a time.

How do the thunder torque inserts compare to the BCT baffles? I didn't realize you could throw in a baffle from another company for so cheap! Do the TTI's retain the same sound volume I am getting now without baffles while still giving me some much needed back pressure? I have been riding this bike for a couple of days now I really like the volume of the bike, but I hate the torque loss.

Comparison is apples and oranges.

The TTI's do not create an engine pumping loss like the BCT baffles.

Volume remains the same in decibels, but it is a slightly lower/deeper tone. You will feel a nice bump in torque in the low and mid range with no loss of power on the top end.
