2013 forty-eight strange hard acceleration noise/issue
Im having issues with my 1 month old forty eight its making a wierd noise on a hard acceleration or crusing in 4th or 5th putting a heavy load on the engine. cant seem to figure out what it is I do use premium 91 octane I recently did my 1k service and I made sure everything was good changed the oils too screaming eagle full synthetic I called the dealership and they seem to think its a spark knock but it sounds like something slapping metal to metal any advice? my solution would be some loud pipes to drowned it out!!!!
Thats a pretty crazy pingin noise. I wish I could tell you what it is... definitely post when you find out. I am curious to know what the hell is causing that.

Hey bud thanks for putting this much effort into solving the mystery. There have been several threads on there about this, and no one really seems to know FOR SURE what it is (at least that I have read). Mine does the exact same thing, and has since day one. It has been described as gravel inside a tin can and comes from the left side below gas tank at hard acceleration. I use only high octane, and live in the desert in high heat. Does it all the time. My only cure was to slap on some VH pipes to drown it out. Sorry I wish I had an answer for you, but if anyone can solve the mystery it will be from this forum more than likely. Ride safe
Transmission chain not properly tensioned?
Pulling hard make it loser on one side and it ends up touching the primary case?
It seemed to me, it was an higher frequency noise, WRT the engine RPM, to be a pinging.
But I may be wrong due to the recording/replay fidelity.
that's really really weird. id have it checked out right away.
it may be pinging under load - or the spark knock that your dealer told you about. i have the thundermax with at on my road king and was able to take a few degrees out of the timing to stop the pinging completely. there are some good youtube videos out there so do some research first. also - there are several tuners out there that will help, but ive found that the ones you can make continual adjustments yourself is the only way to keep pinging at bay. a one time dyno tune didn't hold forever. if putting loud pipes to drown it out works for you, more power to you - but it won't stop the damage that long term pinging will cause.

Hyena yes it is just comparing similar noise. I'm pretty sure engines are the same if I'm not mistaken jester even when down shifting its still manages too happen. It's just wierd to me that I can only get it to do it when its hot/operating temp. I'm think about throwning pipes on but I don't want it to effect my warranty. I was told if it is a pre ignition/"spark knock" it could have to do with mapping and the map being to lean. That's just a rumor I don't know to much I'm new to the harley engine anything would help or at least thoughts.
For the person that made the video... Harley replaced his motor...

well it was bad enough that the techs at HD replaced the entire motor on warentee. it doesn't make that sound for me anymore.

yah, HD Tucson has the bike, they are swapping the entire motor. they tried a new ECM but it did nothing. so, they fix it with this motor swap or I claim the lemon law and get a new bike.
