I have a 1990 883 im going to put a Buell 1200 topend on it. Also will install
the SE bolt in cams too. Heads are off of a S1 lighting that i did some port work too. Should be fun :-)[:-]
Took it out friday and saturday put a little over 400 miles on. It is a new animal in itself.
One nicething is if you a crusing around 60 in fifth gear and roll on the throttle you pick up speed quick for passing on the highway.
If your thinking about getting the conversion its well worth it the amount of torque is insane.
VERY PLEASED!!!!!!
I did the conversion on my 2000 883 custom that I had a few years ago. It was the best money I ever spent on my Sportster. Pretty much a completely new feel to the bike. I now have a 1200, and there really is no "seat of the pants" difference between an 883/1200 conversion and a factory 1200 if you ask me.
I pieced my 1200 conversion together and when it was all said and done I think I had about $400 or so in it. We did the work ourselves. Here's a picture (after conversion). I painted the heads/cylinders myself and put it all together. This was originally a natural (silver) engine. The only work I had someone else do was the cylinder honing to match the pistons...I don't have the proper tools for that.
Pig, where did you order your kit from? plan on doing the work yourself? what did it run you?
Just curious, im thinking of doing the converstion in the near future.

memphis slims shooter.
I got the kit from NRHS http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ekit8831200.shtml
I also got the complete top end gasket kit and the total was right around $810 including shipping. I am having a local indie performance shop install it.
I also wanted to go ahead and get the XB / 2004 XL1200R Heads for $750 and a .536 SE camfor $295 but my checkbook convinced me not to. Ahh well if I want I can always get them installed later ifI really want, it will just cost more though.
I also want to get a chopper front end put on so that's my next big purchase and i better start saving now...
