[sic] Madman, if you were really splitting hairs you'd have a titanium frame on that Sportster of yours! But seriously, you're certainly not the atypical bike owner here. Most don't have the need, $$, nor desire to press every ounce of energy out of their heavily modified engine [w/larger bores/higher compression, cams, head work, etc.] running constant WOT for no other purpose than to try to turn the quickest ET on the 1/4 mile staight. A normal stock engine in good mechanical working order should have very little blowby, and although yes the pcv valve was introduced to lessen emissions, it did it's job and worked as designed, yet offered no real noticeable loss of power or performance on a stock engine.
Sure no racing machine requires a pcv valve and yes the addition of heated air to a cylinder is a contributing factor to performance loss but for the normal Joe's this performance robbing "blowby" back into the chamber per the stock arrangement and others is hardly or not even noticeable. Just ask all the guys [and there are plenty out there, I see them often] who run a stock intake on their Sportster ;O)
I just put a DK Outlaw 587 on my bike last week after pulling off the SE intake that was on it when I got it. I noticed a change in performance right away.
After seeing 1500 miles on my se intake with a good tts tune I can say I was amazed how bad my throttle body assembly and intake ports looked. Oily all over. I have ran hard at times and do run higher rpms. I am changing my se filter to kn and will see this spring how it looks after some miles. If it looks like it did the other day I will get a catch can setup for sure. I run oil level 1/4 up from fill and haven't lost any noticeable amount yet. Even mechanic at HD dealer admitted yesterday that oily residue I see is typical of se breather system.
