Default Performance intake?

I have a SE intake on my bike, not too happy with it.. Did some research and I came up with a K&N high performance filter, not just looking for the extra performance but look as well.. Any other recommendation that would look good on an Iron?

Thanks

Figure Machine maybe? They make some very cool designs that you could customize for your Iron....

I have Arlen Ness and very happy with it. Using a Carl Brouhard cover for looks. Don't know if they make an application for an Iron

Get an Air Hammer w/billet plate and horseshoe breather. Performance always looks better.

SE Stage II 1200, .575 cams, 10:1 forged pistons, HD clutch spring, Baisley Superstock ported heads/oversized valves/ported intake manifold, Air Hammer w/K&N A/C, D&D Bobcats, SEPST tuner - 100hp/81tq 7500rpm limiter, Ricor IAS shocks/Intiminators/RaceTech fork springs, Avon Azaro-ST radials, XR1200 caliper/floating rotor, HD Dual speedo/tach & ergo's - Bikini Fairing/Chin spoiler/Brawler seat/Drag bars/mid controls/Oberon foot pegs. Eats twinkies for breakfast.

There are only a few companies making true performance intakes anymore.

DK Custom
NRHS
Hammer

I don't know of any others.

Pushing blow-by back into the air cleaner is counter productive to performance. What comes out of the breathers is primarily exhaust and oil.

It is also hot. Engines perform better with cool dry air and gas...not hot oily air and gas.

Additionally the exhaust gas has a lower oxygen content, displacing oxygen on each combustion stroke. Another performance robber.

Oil will build up carbon deposits on the pistons, leading to pinging/tuning problems down the road.

It's just a bad idea...the only upside is you make the EPA happy.

You can see the dozens of different looks of the DK Custom Outlaw A/C's HERE Also at that link are dyno charts showing the bump in torque and HP, by just NOT venting the hot oily air into the intake.

@DK - does this kit not prevent the blow-by from re-entering?

I purchased it under the impression that it does, but I'm still waiting to hit 1k miles before installing it and exhaust.

Nope, the S&S, K&N, SE, Ness Big Sucker, Figure Machine, RSD, RC Components and almost everyone else re-route the hot, oily air back into the intake. We call them Stage .5 air cleaners. They compromise performance by the reasons listed above.

As I stated, DK Custom Products, NRHS, and Hammer are the only ones I am aware of...I have seen some no-name air cleaners on ebay out of China that don't re-route.

Also, some of the Stage .5 air cleaners can be modified to route the hot oily air into the atmosphere, instead of into the intake.

No, it does not. On the heavy breather the bolts going into the heads have holes in them, routing the hot oily air thru the bolts, then thru internal channels in the backplate, emptying out into the throttle body, reducing performance and longevity of the engine.
