Bought a used "09" XL1200L with only approx. 5500 miles. Bike is in excellent condition, etc. However, I have noticed that when I get down to about 1/2 a tank of fuel, it seems to not run right. Almost like it's running out of gas and you need to switch to your reserve. If I'm not mistaken, there is no "switch" to turn on a reserve, just a warning light "low on fuel". Is this right? Just wondering if it's me or something I can check...
My first tank, I mistakenly ran regular, yesterday - switched to Sunoco premium. Hope it's just the gas, and not something else. Other than that - seems to run fine as long as I don't run in too high a gear. (Lugging). Still getting used to it. Last three bikes were metric. A big difference!
More info, might not be a fuel problem. Took the bike to a HD dealer because it finally threw an engine code. Says it has a bad IAC...
I'm still not convinced that is the problem. Had a very experienced mechanic give an opinion without riding it, he says it's starving for air, causing it to not run just right. I put some turnout pipes on, but this problem was happening before pipes. Trying to keep her pretty stock, don't have a big budget to just try and see what works. Any suggestion? Could a air filter cause that?
