Default Adding A Tach

I need some suggestions/advice on adding a tach to a 1200C. Any "easy" solutions?

Thanks,
Barry

What year and model is your bike? I got a brand new 2" Harley Davidson mini tach with the mounting brackets and canlast Sept for my birthday. The thing is still sitting in the box. You're going to need a tach, can and brackets. All are sold seperatly. I know from the HD catalog it will run around $400 or so for everything. My fiancee went to my HD wish list online and picked this out for me. I had second thoughts about installing it cause I didn't want to ruin that "classic sleek" look. Even with the 2" mini tach, it still sits kind of high on the bike. Look at the 2007 SE Dyna on HD's website, thats pretty much what the mini tach will look like on the Sporty.....

By the way, installing a tach isn't complicated, but its not simple either. Will take about 2 hours if you know what you're doing.....

Thanks guys. My bike is a 2007 1200C. After reading the instructions I'm pretty much convinced I shouldn't try this on my own.

I just did one on a friends 883 L a couple weeks ago and it was a breeze. No wires to cut and solder. Simply replace the existing speedo harness with the one that came in the kit that has a plug for the speedo as well as one for the tach. The whole job took less than 1 hour.

I did tachs on my wife's 883L (side by side) and my 1200C (above the speedo). They were very simple installs. I read the article that was mentioned in an earlier post. I would not let that prevent you from installing it.

Was it an HD kit or aftermarket? Do you know the P/N?

Hey cHarley... was your avatar picture taken in the Dominican Republic? Thats a fairly common sight down there. Get's me laughing every time I see something like that. I even saw one guy with a washing machine as his passenger, and kid as 3-up.

I took my tachometer off of my 2004 Roadster. Made it look like a metric bike and I really saw no need for it. Anyway if anybody wants to buy it, I know it's over $250 from Harley and I'll sell it for $80 with the dual mount.

You have the same bike I've got and I added a tach to mine and I love it. Here's the cost breakdown for me.
2-5/8" Black Face Tach #68953-04 - $121.95
Mounting Bracket #69426-04 - $49.95
Tapered Gauge Housing #67524-04 - $19.95
Total - $191.85
I'm no hand with a wrench so I had the dealership install it. Here's a pic.

Hope this helps.
