Default 2005 Security

So I just read Curt1953's 10k service thread about the dead key fob going dead and it got me wondering.... My last bike ('05 low) got hit by uninsured motorist. My insurance treated me well so I took the money, repaired the bike, and used the extra to buy another ('05 Roadster). I plan on selling the low when the weather turns better (3 degrees out today). The roadster has security on it and the low didn.t. Live in a decent part of Iowa and I don.t use (or want) the security on my bike. What would I have to change from the low to roadster to make the swap?? The low is an 883 and the roadster is a 1200 (so far). Thanks in advance.

Not sure why you want to get rid of it? I have an '05 Roadster and use the security feature frequently. It disables the ignition which is a nice feature, although no guarantee against nefarious folks. Unlike the new "proximity" security system, the one on the '05's only uses the FOB battery when you activate or deactivate it. I haven't had to change my FOB battery yet - still using the one it came with. That's 8 years and no problems. I say keep it and use it, if and when you want. I have had no problems and there is a sense of security with it.

Thanks for the reply. Guy at dealer when i bought the bike made it sound like I had to carry the fob in my pocket like the newer bikes. Thanks again.
