Please help me.. I am getting what I believe is Miss information I'm really hoping someone who has done this before can give me a better answer.. I have a 2013 iron 883 sportster I changed the stock pipes to Vansen Hines big radius pipes. now I want to change the air intake too DK customs 587 high flow air intake... This is where I get all kinds of different information.. I have been told the bike will no longer run correctly I have been told I have to Dino my bike after I install the air in take or I could use a power commander or fuel pack or XiED what is the best thing for the bike.. After installing the Vansen Hines big radius I thought the bike was running fine but I'm no mechanic.
I belive you should get yourself a powercomander.
I`ll will mount a new air cleaner and new pipes and I\m gonna have it on a dyno so i get the best preformance.
It depends on your budget, and what else you plan to do to your bike.
A Screamin Eagle pro race tuner will allow you to do as much or as little tuning as you want to compensate for any future tuning mods, at the very least it will allow a dealer to download a stage one map, (which most people on here will tell you is a waste of time), but then you have to trust the dealer to do it correctly, and any future tunes will have to be done by them too, unless you can get the software and cable interface, which we can't here in the UK.
OR
You could go with the Power commander or another aftermarket tuning device, and have total control over your bikes fuel map, to the extent that you know for sure exactly what map it's running on.
If you're running V&H pipes and their filter, then you might as well go V&H fuelpack, and I think they give you free upgrades if you change anything else.
You sure need to do something because just with a free flowing exhaust I think you'd be running lean, and that's without the filter.
The Efi will adjust to a certain extent, but that will be outside it's adjustment possibilities.
I went for the SE tuner, and the dealer that did the work installed the wrong map. Eventually it was discovered.
I'm sure everyone has their own horror stories, but you pay your money and take your choice, after all it should be a good thing upgrading your ride, not a source of stress.

By having the free flowing exhaust, and then adding the free flowing intake, you should do something with the fuel. It does not need to be dynoed, it can be as inexpensive as the XiED's. Click HERE for more info.
There are thousands running that set-up and are very happy with it. (free flowing intake and exhaust, along with XiED's)
Here is a link to an overview on all the options- short read, and well worth the 5 minutes.
The Xeid's are worth a try...they will do the most for the cheepest price. They will do a lot more then the harley download. I ran them for 6 months while saving for my TTS tuner and dyno tune. Biggest bang for the buck on the market.
It all depends on how picky you are and how much money you have to spend. I wasn't worried about squeezing all the horsepower (which I eventually did) by going full tuner and tune. I just wanted my bike to run the best it could...but I spent $600 bucks to get it there. Worth every penny, but you might not have it in your budget.
I ordered the 587 high flow air intake and the xied..
Running the 587, the V&H and the XiED your bike is fine. I ran mine the same way for 25,000 miles before doing the 1250 conversion. There are thousands doing the same thing and are very happy.
well I have a 2012 iron with slip ons and a s/e air filter and ran it with xieds and gotta say bike run great.....but I always thought would it run better with a power commander so I saved for one and got it from fuel moto with map pre installed and really not a massive difference in the running of the bike compared to the xieds and I do get a lot more decal popping with the pcv.
If I could go back then I would keep the xieds.
