Default Recommended Tools?

Can anyone recommend some tools to work on a XL1200C. Living in the UK all my tools are metric and don't quite fit properly. I am on a visit to the States in a few days and plan a visit to Sears. Can anyone recommend a minimum tool list I should buy for some basic maintainance. I do not wish to buy a huge set, nor do I wish to pay for a HD set. Many thanks.

It would mostly depend on how deep you want to go into the bike. Generally a good set of sockets and open end/closed end wrenches will get most of the jobs done. A set of SAE Allen wrenches with BALL endsshould be in the mix and an inexpensive torque wrench. Those are the basics. If you are getting into the heads, brakes you are going to need 12pt sockets as well. Hope that helps a bit.

One thought I have is: while you're in the states go to a Harley dealership. Look in their accessories catalog and find the tool kit you most like. Write down the items that are included in that kit and then go to astore (Sears for example) and buy the individual parts. I've never done it but I would bet you would save over half doing it this way versus buying the Harley tool kit.
