How easy is it to either rotate or remove a handlebar?
I'm buying an '07 1200C That has drag handlebars and I really don't care for how they are oriented...instead of reaching back to the rider, they aim downward. My options would seem to be simply rotate the handlebar or replace (replacement will probably be through a dealer since I want different grips and that could be done at the same time for the labor).
If it is as simple as the 4 bolts on the top of the steering column, what is the torque spec?
Yes it is a simple as that, you might have to change the angle of your clutch and brake levers too,so you will need a torx bit set and make sure you have a t27 in it.
the torque setting is 144 to 180 inch lbs not foot lbs
Alot of people just go by the feel, snug them down good set on the bike and make sure their tight go for a ride and check again, not telling you to do this but alot do.
torque specs
handle bar clamp bolts=15 foot lbs
clutch lever perch bolts=132 inch lbs
switch assembly bolts=45 inch lbs
master cylinder clamp bolts=132 inch lbs
It is a 1 beer difficulty rating. Anybody with the right tools can adjust the handlebars. Like everyone said it is the 4 bolts on the clamp and adjust the controls.
Another tip: put a towel on your tank! When you loosen the top clamp the bars might fall back or forward if you are not holding them. Don't ask me how I know.
Ill be up grading my bars to 14" apes, changing grips and adding chrome switch covers. If putting it back together is as easy as the tear down its going to be a breeze.
I'm going to be installing the rear shocks (they were removed), anything to note? Can this/should this be done with the bike on the kick stand? I have both shocks and they are currently zip tied...I'll add pictures in a second. Trying to figure out where the extra "ball bearing" looking piece goes as well as the orientation (though I think I got that).
This last picture is how I believe they are oriented. I'm also seeing a lot of rust on the ball bearing looking pieces, should I replace them or use them?
