I've been running hd synth since I got my bike but, considering the amount of oil that gets vaporized or just walks out of my engine and the frequency of my oil changes due to the missing oil... I think I need switch back to dino oil. Any advice here?
Facts:
*I burn off / arlen ness air filter vapor lose about a liter per 1000 miles. (Ride bike like it is stolen)
*im changing the oil about 4 times a year. W/average cost of $67... (I change primary with oil change) using hd synth and filter
*Bike has 9000 miles now.
CV, I ran Syn 3 a couple of times, HD put it in at the 1,000 mile check up, I used it at the 5,000 mile oil change. I went on a trip to western Pa. when it was about 95 degrees for most of the 370 mile, (each way) trip and used about .75 of a quart each way. At 7,500 miles I changed the oil to RevTech 25w60 dino oil and it doesn't use oil any more. I also run RevTech tranny lube. At 21,000 I am pleased with the RevTech products.

My advice: Quit doing full oil & primary fluid changes when you only need to be topping off the motor oil. Topping the oil off is fine and is what has been done for decades!!!! Switching to dino is fine if you want, it's cheaper and has been known to quiet the top end done over syn oil.
With 9K miles you should have only needed 2 oil changes/ 1 at 1K, the second at 5K. Any more your just pissing money away (unless you go over the time limit)
I changed it so often because I kept forgetting to check the oil. Id end up with 1qt of roasted oil left. 2qt shy of an oil change. So I'd just go ahead a swap in new oil and a fresh filter.
Total waste of $. Thats why im thinking dino.
.... now do I need to perform some sort of ceremony to get the synth out or just let the oils mix? I know that the engine will horde some of the oil during the change. Can they be mixed?

It sat for about 5-6 year before I got hold of it at 186 miles and began my oil negligence campaign.
There is no worthwhile benefit to using synth IMHO, I've managed the last 40-odd years with the real stuff! They are made to meet the same specs as dyno oils. I do use synth in my S&S motor, but only because it's recommended. Both Sporty and Buell have nice new dyno in both holes, as of last week.
It's fine to mix them, and all those oils you see that say semi-synthetic are just that, syn & dino mixed. I typically use syn when I do an oil change.....but will even add some of my 10W30 Quaker State auto oil in the bike if I don't have any extra MC oil sitting in my bin of left over quarts of oil.
