So the other day I was riding down the main road in my town, going around 50 mph, and as I am shifting the fvckin clutch goes out. I would describe myself as a reserved rider but I definitely dont ride it hard enough to do that.
Two questions, why could this have possibly happend, and how difficult is it to fix?
It's simple just place the kickstand on a piece of wood or something that will keep most of the fluid from running out the Derby cover. If you don't strap it down be sure you don't push to hard against the cover or the bike may tip over. Spray some wd40 under the rubber boot pull it back and adjust it all the way out. On the handlebar you will see a chrome pin that retains the "cable eye" remove that by taking off the c clip. Ps buy a few at HD because they tend to fly away on reassembly. Now lay the cable out so that it's straight and on the ground. Using the prop torx loosen the derby plate. Take pictures of where things are. Really easy to do. Another Ps if one of the pieces fall in the Derby cover just use a magnet to pull it out. I know I dropped a part inside. Carefully unscrew the cable from the primary case. Make sure you align the threads on reassembly and just snug it enough to compress the o ring. I was gentle with mine and it still pull the threads. You should have a manual.
what kind of sporty do you have? i just replaced all my lines with SS and have the blk one in a box. I'd take $15 for the old clutch cable and can ship it to you us mail priority. shipping included in the price. i ride a 2000 xl 1200. hope it helps. doesn't take long to do.
Thanks for the advice fellas, unfortunately no one around me carries them in stock so I have to wait a week while it comes in. And whats worse than a week without my ride? The best weather so far this year decided to come by now...
